Regulations of the Local Computer Network of the Mathematical Institute

For each user of the Computer Network and Laboratory of the Mathematical Institute of the Wrocław University applies:

I. Penal Code, Chapter XXXIII "Crimes against the Protection of Information": Dz.U. 1997 nr 88 poz. 553

II.Wrocław University Regulations:

  1. Regulations No. 142/2017 of the Rector of the Wrocław University for the security of information processed in information systems and the rules for the use of it infrastructure of the Wrocław University.

III. Computer Network and Laboratory Regulations of the Mathematical Institute of the Wrocław University:

Introduction

The Computer Network and computer laboratory Regulations of the Mathematical Institute of the Wrocław University apply to all users of computer systems under the supervision of the Computer Laboratory.

General provisions:
  1. The user can use the resources of the institute network only after creating an account, that is, the assignment of a login name and password. The assignment of the name at the same time undertakes to read and comply with these Regulations.
  2. The Dean of the Faculty decides to grant the right to use the resources of the institute network.
  3. The Head of the Laboratory shall be responsible to the Dean for the smooth operation of the institute network.
  4. Administrators have the right to control the identity of people using the institute network resources.
  5. The user is responsible for any operations performed through the account granted to him, as well as for damages or unlawful activities done with this account.
  6. During teaching classes, the teacher, at other times, network administrators, is responsible for the discipline in the computer lab.
  7. During the teaching classes, only students who are scheduled to participate in classes can stay in the classroom, other users - only if the teacher agrees before starting the classes.
  8. In the free time from teaching activities, users can use a computer laboratory during working hours specified for network administrators.
User's rights and obligations:
  1. The user has the right to privacy of data stored in the institute network resources.
  2. The Computer Laboratory will endeavour to ensure the security of user data.
  3. The user is required to secure access to network resources by choosing a sufficiently difficult password. If the users find that the account is used by others, they must immediately notify the administrator. The same should be done if they find access to more than one account.
  4. The user is required to follow the administrator's recommendations regarding the technical terms of use of the systems.
  5. The user is obliged to strictly comply with all software licensing policies held by IM UWr.
  6. The user is required to switch the computer into linux after work finished in Windows.
  7. Any noticed failures or malfunction of the network / equipment should be immediately reported to the laboratory employee.
  8. The user is materially responsible for any damage to computer equipment resulting from its improper use.

In its activities, the user should avoid activities that make it difficult to work for other users. This means among others:

- attention to computer equipment at his disposal,
- cost-effective use of memory occupied,
- cost-effective use of CPU time,
- cost-effective use of shared disk space (e.g. /tmp).

Prohibitions:

  1. The account to the institute network can only be used by the person to whom it was assigned. Confirming that the account or password is shared with another person will immediately block the account.
  2. It is forbidden to use for commercial purposes hardware or software made available to users.
  3. It is forbidden to install or run software that compromises the system and other users, in particular virus programs, network traffic monitoring programs that violate existing security features, etc.
  4. It is forbidden to install and run any software without the administrator's permission that over-uses the resources of the institute network (memory, processor) and thus violates the rights of other users, especially during teaching activities.
  5. Copying of programs made available in computer systems and owned by the Faculty is prohibited.
  6. It is forbidden to use user's own website to distribute content that is not compatible with Polish law.
  7. It is forbidden to disconnect from the wired network of workstations in computer rooms. Notebooks can be connected to a radio network.
  8. It is forbidden to make changes to the configuration of the computer.
  9. It is forbidden to eat meals or drinks in computer laboratories.
Sanctions:

The sanctions provided for in Polish law and disciplinary sanctions laid down in the Regulations of the Wrocław University will apply to users who violate the provisions of these Regulations. Dean of the Faculty for actions contrary to these Regulations may:

- limit the user's rights to the resources of the institute network,
- temporarily suspend the user's right to use the systems,
- revoke the right of use of the systems.
