A common practice at our Institute is the independent selection of the supervisor of the diploma thesis (bachelor's and master's) by the student. On the one hand, this is to allow you to choose the subject of your future thesis, as well as to best suit your interests, and on the other hand, it emphasizes the individualization of the student-researcher relationship. We hope that the future supervisors were able to interest you in their preferred topics during their classes and (especially during the master's studies) include you in their research. You can read about the interests of other employees (with whom you have not come across during your studies) and the potential subject of their diploma theses on the relevant pages.
Ways to get the thesis topic >
- selection from among the these
>, already approved by the Diploma Theses Committee. Sometimes the implementation of diploma theses on the presented topics requires additional knowledge, so before choosing it is best to contact the employee submitting the topic;
- determining the topic of the diploma thesis together with the future supervisor during individual consultations. A special case of the implementation of option 2. (in the case of bachelor's studies) is to write a bachelor's thesis based on a project created as part of the Team Specialization Project. The principal investigator should specify the conditions under which he/she will supervise the bachelor's thesis in the next semester. All thesis topics determined in accordance with option 2 must be approved by the Thesis Committee (in accordance with the procedure described below).
If you have a problem with choosing a supervisor, please contact the supervisor of the specialty.
What to do before and after determining the topic of your thesis >
- Contact your future supervisor and determine/confirm the subject of your thesis.
- Fill in the application form on Form E.
- In the event that the topic of the thesis has not been approved by the Thesis Committee, it will be forwarded to the Committee for consideration.
A few additional notes >
- Master's seminars conducted at the Institute of Mathematics are intended to familiarize students with a specific branch of mathematics and to develop the ability to speak and write about mathematics, therefore they are aimed at developing competences necessary to write a master's thesis, but are not intended to guide the writing of a master's thesis by the student. Master's thesis topics are also not offered during the seminar.
- In each case, writing a diploma thesis (bachelor's and master's) is based on individual student-supervisor cooperation.
- Changing the topic of the thesis requires the approval of the Diploma Thesis Committee.
- Change of supervisor requires the consent of the Dean.
